List of agencies providing support for Ukraine

Donating Financially

  • Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) launched aUkraine Humanitarian Appeal to raise funds for food, water, medicine, protection and trauma care for people fleeing the war. Every pound donated by the UK public to the DEC will be matched by the government, up to the value of £20m.
  • The UN Refugee Agency – distributing essential relief items, including blankets, sleeping bags and hygiene items and delivering essential aid
  • The British Red Cross – providing accommodation, food, water and other aid items to refugees.
  • Care International is providing emergency relief through its partner, People in Need – this non-governmental, non-profit organisation has been sending trucks of durable food, hygiene items, nappies, sleeping bags, mats, and other goods into Lviv in western Ukraine to distribute to people locally.
  • Save the Children – Distributing essential supplies and winter kits of clothing and blankets as temperatures plunge below freezing
  • The International Committee of the Red Cross is working closely with the Ukrainian Red Cross Society to provide emergency assistance and support local hospitals and primary healthcare facilities with medical equipment.
  • Unicef – It estimates there are up to 7.5 million children in need of support and says a £46 donation will provide a family with an emergency water and hygiene kit.
  • Médecins Sans Frontières are responding to medical and humanitarian needs as the conflict evolves, providing training in emergency medicine and surgical preparedness to hospitals, as well as mass casualty kits with supplies for treating traumatic injuries.
  • World Jewish Relief – the charity is supporting refugees with food, water, personal protective equipment and accommodation.
  • Cafod – providing beds, food, washing facilities and safe spaces for children.
  • TheWorld Health Organization is raising funds for its frontline response and to deliver life-saving medicines and supplies to people across Ukraine and to refugees.

Donating Supplies

  • Goods For Good UK are providing a rapid response Ukraine crisis and are supplying relief aid to Ukrainian welfare centres which include bedding, clothing, hygiene essential toiletries. 

The Highway Code has changed – are you up to date?

The Highway Code was updated on 29th January 2022. These advisory changes have been implemented to improve safety for people walking, cycling and horse riding. Every road user still has a responsibility to keep themselves and each other safe, and the changes mean being ready to give priority, leave space and be considerate of others.

The changes introduce new advisory measures that are not legal requirements, but could be drawn upon in court proceedings.

In summary, irrespective of your method of transport, a new hierarchy of road users has been introduced to ensure those who can do the greatest harm have the greatest responsibility to reduce the danger or threat they may pose to others.

Key changes:

  – You should now give people crossing and waiting to cross and cyclists going straight ahead priority when turning in and out of junctions.

  – You should now leave at least 1.5 metres when overtaking people cycling at speeds of up to 30mph, and give them more space when overtaking at higher speeds.

  – When driving, you should now pass horse riders and horse-drawn vehicles at speeds under 10mph and allow at least 2 metres of space.

  – You should now allow at least 2 metres of space and keep to a low speed when passing a pedestrian who is walking in the road.

  – Car users should now open their doors with the hand furthest from the door, to help them look over their shoulder to see cyclists or pedestrians nearby.

  – People cycling may ride in the centre of the lane on narrow or quiet roads, in slow-moving traffic, or at junctions as this may be the safest position, allowing others to overtake when it is safe to do so.

  – Two people can ride two abreast and it can be safer for them to do so.

MHDC Jubilee Funding Available

Get funding for your Platinum Jubilee celebration

From street parties to community events, Malvern Hills District Council and Spacehive are working together to bring ideas to life to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this year.

Individuals, community groups and schools are being encouraged to pitch their project ideas to the crowdfunding platform Spacehive, to begin raising funds for their event.

Malvern Hills District Council has made £10,000 available for the Platinum Jubilee Community Fund, with up to £2,000 for each eligible project.

Projects can be one-off events taking place over the bank holiday weekend from 2 to 5 June or ongoing projects with a lasting legacy, from street parties and get-togethers to community murals and art exhibitions.

The council also has funding pots available including the People Make Places Fund, Destination Zero Community Fund and the Ward Budget Scheme which provides councillors with £500 per year to assist local projects financially.

Anyone interested in crowdfunding for their Jubilee project will need to launch their project on Spacehive by 15 March and raise the funds by 29 April.

MHDC Eco-friendly Project Funding

Council to support eco-friendly projects in the district

Malvern Hills District Council is providing funding to community projects which aim to make a greener and more sustainable district.

The Destination Zero Community Fund is a dedicated funding pot available through the crowdfunding platform, Spacehive, to support local, community-led projects that help to reduce carbon emissions.

The £100,000 fund, which is aimed at community groups, charities, local councils, schools and individuals to help bring forward projects that would have a wider community benefit.

The council is interested in projects that contribute towards the aims of the Destination Zero plan, focusing on reducing carbon emissions, tackling climate change, and enhancing biodiversity and habitats.

Projects with the following outcomes are being encouraged:

  • Improved energy efficiency of homes through community action
  • Increased low carbon travel for community benefit
  • Community campaigns that support reduce, reuse, and recycle initiatives
  • Natural measures to capture and store carbon (e.g., tree planting, pollinator sites, wetlands, wildflower meadows)

Examples of projects could be a community garden, e-bike hire schemes, community repair café, swap shop events, local renewable energy schemes, but there are many more possibilities.

The council will review all project campaigns and successful projects can expect to receive a pledge of up to £10,000 (max. 50% of the campaign target).

The size of the pledge will depend on the size of the project, how it delivers against fund criteria and Destination Zero objectives, the impact it will have, and the buy-in from the community.

Before the fund launches, the council is encouraging organisations to share their project ideas to inspire others.

Cllr Sarah Rouse, Portfolio Holder for Environment at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “The fund is a brilliant opportunity for the community to come together and set up projects that could make a real difference to reducing the carbon emissions in our wonderful district. We are asking people to take part in our ideas board to get them talking, inspire them and encourage them to create projects within their communities that will help create a greener, more sustainable district. By sharing these ideas, it could inspire a group to develop a project and help make them a reality.”

National Campaigns

21/02/2022 – 27/02/2022 – Mobile phone while driving Operation NPCC Campaign. Patrols will be out and about dealing with this important issue.

Campaign-Local

Neighbourhood Policing Week started on Monday 17th January 2022.  On Wednesday 19th January we attended Tesco Tenbury Wells (2 til 4) and handed out personal security advice, purse bells, and personal attack alarms.  The purse bells were a huge hit. We need to re-order more, as demand out stripped supply! Dates will be on Neighbourhood Matters with a new date so watch this space.

Bike and Property Marking- we will be roaming the Parish’s with Bike and Property marking days in February, details to follow via Neighbourhood Matters and emails to clerks.

Police Contact Contract Charter

As part of the Police Contact Contract Charter, we will be out and about in our more rural Parish’s collecting speed data in the coming months. We have been on active rural patrols with PC Nigel Bolton, the ‘We don’t buy Crime Rural’ and Business Police Officer, in areas where poaching has taken place. If any vehicles are seen if registration can be taken it is such useful information for us to have. One success story in Hallow where the Hare Coursing Van, which was not taxed or insured was removed by Police. The offenders had a long walk home!

Surgeries

We attended Hallow and Martley with the start of the 2022 Safer Neighbourhood team’s surgeries. At Hallow we had a queue of people lining up with questions, and these have been fed back, for the most part, into the Parish Charter Contact Contract.

We have been in discussion with the Road Safety Team, and Highways, and will feed back results to the members of the Public and Parish Council alike.

MHDC Stay Connected Pledge to tackle loneliness

‘Stay Connected’ Pledge

Tackling loneliness has always been a priority in Worcestershire, but now more than ever. We recognise that there are people of all ages who are feeling lonely and we want to encourage everyone to take simple steps to feel more connected, which we can all do, even at a distance.

To enable residents to identify what opportunities are available across Worcestershire for them to connect we have launched the ‘Stay Connected’ pledge that all providers can sign up to. This will show residents that as organisations you are committed to tackling lonelinessand supporting people to stay connected.

All we ask is that each provider ensure their activities are inclusive,welcoming and provides an opportunity for people to  connect with others, by putting in place some simple measures:

  • Ensure the activity is inclusive;
  • Identify any barriers to participation and where possible work with partners to address these e.g. arranging community transport, taking the activity out into the community, making the activity available online;
  • Welcome and introduce new members (this could include a ‘Welcome Pack’ given to members including information about the activity);
  • Offer a buddy scheme where existing members ‘class advocates’ support new members to feel welcome and included;
  • Ask members about t heir skill s and interests and if they would like to be more involved through volunteering;
  • Keep members informed of any activity changes via t elephone, email and social media;
  • Where appropriate  keep attendance registers to  contact  members if they have not attended after an appropriate amount of time to see if they need any support;
  • Provide info rm ation on tackling loneliness and signpost to other services;
  • Staff and volunteers complete the Making Every Contact Count (MECC) e-learning, and any other appropriate training e.g. loneliness awareness, inclusivity

As organisations you will beprovided with signposting info rmat ion and access to the MECC e-learning.

Once the measures have been put in place and you have signed and dated the pledge you will be awarded the ‘Stay Connected’ logo which is available in a numbe r of formats that you can use on any marketing and publications when promoting your activity. As an organisation you will also be listed as a partner on the Worcestershire Health & Wellbeing webpage which is accessible to the public (please see the link below).
